Philter – The Beautiful Lies
From the USA, congratulations on the album! I’ve been eagerly waiting since you announced that you signed with your new label & will buy it today!
I was browsing amazon at 1 o’clock in the morning when i remembered that Philter was about to release his album in the near future, so i looked it up and was quite surprised to see it released that exact moment.
Even though I was actually looking forward to the CD version I bought the mp3 version without hesitation.
This very post of him was jet to be posted, so I only knew about the Norwegian physical copy.
Well, the album…if you liked his music till now you won’t be disappointed, same pleasing songs that go down and fill your heart with that warm fuzzy feeling inside, nice charming melodies, the female vocals still do their magic and it is hard not to like the songs.
But… there is always a but i suppose:
It sometimes sounds too much like Philter, the songs go by just that little bit too easily. It would have been nice to have an edge or two, a song you don’t grasp at the very first listening, but that takes some more time to appreciate. There are some candidates that point in the right direction but all in all it is “just” Philter – a CD you can put on and listen to for hours – without ever getting tired of it and giving you a nice time, which is not a bad thing at all – but unfortunately it never completely captivates your attention.
It is just that little bit too slick.
Don’t get me wrong, if you liked his songs go buy it, it is a very nice addendum to the songs he released free of charge here on his website (which forever earned him a place in my heart
), it shows that he knows what he does and that he knows he does it well, but you will be left with the feeling he could have pushed it just that little bit further.

I randomly found your music on spotify the other day. “The Beautiful Lies” has more than one gem in it. I’m a picky critic and I’ve already saved three songs (haunting, revolver, 8-bit smiles). What’s more there a lot of variety on the album.
