The Prequel:

Magnus Gangstad Jørgensen was born September 29th, 1985, in Molde, Norway.
During his childhood, Magnus always had a fascination for tape recorders and such. Making his own radio broadcasts, pulling out segments he liked from songs and looping them over onto secondary tapes soon became a favorite pastime.

At the age of 8, he and his mother packed up their junk and moved to rainy Bergen.

In Bergen he started to attend band practice, like a true nerd, but after the first lesson, he quit, like a true rebel (Basically because he didn’t have the patience to read notes). Later on, he took up drums, where he didn’t have to follow anything special to express or create.

The Computer Age:

Many years later, around the age of 18, Magnus was introduced to his first music tracker, and was instantaneously hooked. The fact that it was possible to make your own melodies and songs, without actually having access to a truckload of instruments, was mind blowing.

During the next couple of years, Magnus kept doing music, passing it out to friends and family and slowly evolving into a sound he felt comfortable with.

The Philter Project:

In 2005 he got a tip about “Urørt”, where unsigned artists could upload and share their music online.
Before he could upload anything, he needed a name. After some serious soul searching, he landed on “Philter” which translates to; a magical potion or charm, especially one that causes somebody to fall in love (In Latin).

The Philter project also needed a logo of some sorts. One night, Magnus sat down with a blank piece of paper and started drawing, what he ended up with was a caricature of himself. He was wearing a pink bunny costume, covering all of him, just revealing the face. The thought behind it was spoofing artists such as “Daft Punk” and “Slipknot” who always wore masks, to hide their identity. Magnus thought it would be fun to go the other way around.

The Internet:

When all aspects around Philter where ready, Magnus uploaded 4-5 songs on “Urørt”.
It was a slow start, but later that same year, Filip Christensen, producer in Field Productions, found the song “Love”. He sent Magnus a mail and explained that he loved the feeling of the track, and wanted to use it in the trailer for his upcoming skifim, “Welfare”.

When the “Welfare” teaser hit the net, the numbers of downloaders on the Philter profile started to rise, and the feedback was extremely positive. Filip decided to use an additional 2 or 3 Philter songs in the main movie, and popularity kept growing.

The Presence:

Thanks to word of mouth, Philter have now reached a huge amount of people all around the world.
The music has been featured in a lot of extreme sport movies, DVD releases, commercials, TV shows and things alike.

“I just want to thank everyone who listens to my music, spreads the word, and supports the Philter project. I owe everything to you guys! From the bottom of my heart; Thank you!”

All the best

A friend of mine put on a Philter song and said “this is something you could use in one of your skatevideos right?”
I was instantly caught by the music. What a beautiful sound, nice ambient tunes and good beats and rythms. He put on some other Philter tracks and there was more genious sound. “Whos this? Why havent i heard this before?” I was even more stunned to find out you were norwegian, and all this was made by one dude in a bunny suit on hes home computer. Keep up the good stuff! Such inspiring and creative music :)

    Hi Magnus!

Your music is fantastic. Totally unique.

The first time i heard your tunes was in a clothes-store called Indiska. I was there with my girlfriend and I was a bit distressed at the time, having to go through every store in the mall withhout a real purpose. :)

Then I heard the soothing, calming music an I had to ask the Clerk:
“What music is on?” She ran out and showed me the CD-case.

That saved the day and many days to come!

    Thank you!
